Artist 1 Spring 2011

Christy Karpinski
Personal Bio:
I am a fine art photographer born and raised in Arizona. I received my BA in Women's Studies from the University of Arizona in 1997. In my academic studies I focused on issues of identity and of how we makes sense of ourselves and others in the world. Many of these ideas have carried over into my photographic work exploring the realms of childhood and childhood spaces. I earned an MFA in Photography from Columbia College Chicago in 2005. Since then, I have been teaching photography at Columbia College Chicago and Evanston Arts Center, creating images for editorial and commercial assignments as well as working on personal photographic projects.

Why I am interested in her work:
I am interested in investigating other artist work, when they work with children or adolescence. learning or seeing their process is usually benificial.

I wonder the relation she had with these kids and parents to achieve such an intimate trusting atmosphere. I do not plan on shooting children but that honest trust between subjects is interesting to investigate.
